VK5RWN Wireless Link

On October 18th the AREG installed a new 5.8GHz wireless link into the VK5RWN repeater system.

The system is on test for the next couple of weeks, the results have been very promising with the link providing in excess of 30Mbit throughput (full duplex).  Certainly many times faster than the current 512kbit symmetrical ADSL connection.

Once the wireless link has been finally commissioned and cut over the AREG will be able to close the current ADSL and Telephone internet connection which will significantly reduce the on-going running costs of this site.

I’d like to thank Bob VK5FO, Ray VK5RR, Andy VK5AKH and Mark VK5QI for assisting me with the installation and setup of both ends of the link.

We look forward to seeing you there.

AREG July 2014 General Meeting

The next General Meeting is this Friday, 18th July, at the Reedbeds Community Hall, 7:30 pm.

There are no formal planned activities for this month other than a short sharp and shiny General Meeting.  This will be a welcome change from the two hour long marathons of the past few months.

This coming weekend the AREG will be busy activating one of the the Australian IARU HQ contesting stations, under the callsign VK5WIA, in Younghusband, on the banks of the Murray River.   I’m sure there will be plenty of activity and stories of the adventure at the next meeting.

During the meeting we will also be covering general club business, further preparation for the AGM, which has been decided for August, and the general “rag chewing” over coffee, tea and cake.

If any members have winter time projects that they would like to share with the group, then we’d love you to bring them along and discuss over a coffee.

AREG June 2014 General Meeting

The next General Meeting is this Friday, 20 June, at the Reedbeds Community Hall, 7:30 pm.

Well what with recent events with the club heavily involved with providing the River Murray Canoe Marathon Event (RPM) with safety and tracking communications support over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, and many members racing around the country side chasing SOTA and Parks Awards activations, it has been a very busy couple of months.

So, come along one and all, the meeting will be offering a debrief of the RPM with the opportunities for all who participated in the event to regale us with anecdotes of their experiences, hopefully feedback from the RPM management and organising team, plus the opportunities to review AREG’s performance and provision of communications support for the event.

Also the evening will be covering general club business, preparation for the AGM, which should be in either July or August, and the general “rag chewing” over coffee, tea and cake.

Don’t miss this evening, it should be a very busy and interesting evening for all.

7:30 pm, Friday 20 June, at the Reedbeds, see you all there!
