Phase 2

Phase 2 |
The Second phase of the shed project was going to be hard. There was no two ways about it, the first was to clear out all the stuff, pack it up and store it somewhere. The second was to then demolish the old shed, as this was going to be a destructive part, a few friends were keen to help, as destruction was fun. The process of packing up the shed took some weeks, but in all if the effort was done in one hit, not parts of days, or after work, then it may have been as little as two weeks. This was good as I do have a lot of stuff. But it all got boxed up and stored. Some in the back room (Harry room is filled floor to ceiling with boxes) and some outside the back door, with the rest in the in laws spare room. Not to forget the use of house roof, back yard and anywhere else I thought of at the time. In the process of moving stuff, I was putting a label on everything, this did not exclude Dianne. Here are some more photos of stuff getting moved. Demolition DAY, December 28th 2004 At last we were ready for demolition, as the destruction part is usually the most fun, there was no shortage of people willing to come and take their frustration out on an old shed. In some ways it was a said day, as the old shed had served me well. There was no choice really in what had to be done, as white ant damage and the size were problem that could only be solved one way, take was to take it down and start again. I would like to say thanks to all the help that people gave leading up the Demolition day, and on the day it's self. Thanks go to Dianne, Sandra, Ray, Sandii, Kirsti, Alex, Chris, Matt, Ben, Scott and Frank. With out your help, it would not have happened as quick as it did, only 6 hours to take down the old shed to ground level. The concrete was being left for the contractors to take care of with an excavator. All old shed have something in common, they have been there for some time, this one was not exception to the rule. So the build up of dust and dirt on beams and in the insulations was no exception for this one. Ray took the lead in the insulation removal, and 4th dimensionally packed the trailer ready to go to the dump. Of course you have to have the person in charge for the days work. There is always a last few things to clear out of the shed before you can really start. Then it was time to start taking it all apart, one crew worked on the Hamshack, the other worked on the roof, and the third crew worked on the front part of the old shed. The Hamshack will never be the same! The Front part of the shed The Wrecking Crew From Left to Right - Ray, Matt, Alex, Peter, Frank, Ben and Scott The front part of the shed is now down, and the only part still standing is the hamshack, but this was deliberate, as if we pulled down the hamshack first, the rest of the shed would have followed. So a controlled dismantling of the front section left the rear part ready to finish. Things were going well, and I for one did not expect to be having this much success and taking as little time has it has so far. The Hamshack The hamshack came down fast was well. It was also surprising, Dianne captured the last frame falling with Scott's great camera. Here is the 5 action frames below, well the 5th one is us all lining up for another photo. All said and done, the old shed was pulled down in 6 hours flat, I am sure more time will be spent building the new one. Now only a bit if cleanup of the Back yard is required, but still that will not take long. In all the contractors took three months to turn up and start working. The photo below is what the back yard looked like before the digging started. Backyard Ready to GO - 5/3/2005 Now it is the end of Phase 2 with the start of Phase 3, I thought that Phase 3 was going to be the easy part, well all I can say is I was very wrong.
